Physical Description

The main feature of these snails is the shape of its shell. The majority of the family Trochidae can be recognized by its circular, corneous operculum as well as the internal nacreous shell layer. The T.stellatus (Gmelin) is described with a large, heavy and top-shaped shell. The surface of its shell is granulated and it has the lips serrated. The sides of it are somewhat arched, what provides an external appearance rounded. At the lowest spire of each whorl, the tubercles are extended when compared with Trochus radiatus. The columella is denticulated, and the color of this snail is characterized as dull green to brown with broad radial reddish bands (Apte, D., 2004). The shell size is between 18 to 40mm (Figure 2).
